This year our kickoff meeting will be a time to celebrate.  After 2 years of isolation, we’re in the mood to enjoy a reunion and look forward to the next Club year.  This first meeting will be our traditional Fall Coffee with sweet and savory refreshments.  We’ll preview what’s in store for our annual events, and a shortened business meeting will follow.

“Landscapes that Save the World: The Importance of Biodiversity in the Garden”

Often, gardeners don’t focus on how important it is to promote a well-balanced ecosystem in their home landscapes. BRYCE will show us why it’s important to create a biodiverse garden, and how to achieve it.

BRYCE LANE spent 34 years teaching and advising over 20,000 students at the Dept. of Horticultural Science at NC State University. Retiring in 2014, he still teaches part-time. For eleven seasons, he hosted and produced the three-time Emmy award-winning UNC TV show, “In the Garden with Bryce Lane.”

Join us for a fresh, fresh look at holiday decorating. BESS will explore fresh ideas with fresh flowers to enhance your home during the holidays. As a special bonus, two lucky raffle winners will each take an arrangement home!

BESS TREADWELL is a Nationally Accredited Master flower show judge, and has exhibited in flower shows across the country. She has exhibited extensively, including at Disney’s Epcot Flower and Garden Show, and at Art in Bloom at the NC Museum of Art. She is also the Design Chair of the Raleigh Garden Club.

“Planting for Pollinators: Annuals, Perennials and Grasses”

JASON will clue us into the best plants to attract pollinators. Flowers and grasses provide food as well as habitat and protection for the pollinators we want to attract to our gardens. Learn about the large array of beautiful options to create a pollinator-friendly space.

JASON HOLMES is the Curator of the Doris Duke Center Gardens. Jason enjoys welcoming visitors to share the beautiful spaces he and his team have created and maintain.

MUG UP!  It is March and that means the Garden Club is celebrating by holding our annual Mug  Up For Spring. Having a “mug up” is an old Irish custom which is an invitation to “come friend, sit down and enjoy a Mug on me”.  In our case, it’s a move to fill the auditorium with Spring flowers.

Our very own LORRAINE TUCK will lead a panel of Master Gardeners who will answer your burning gardening questions! The combined expertise of this panel will make this a meeting you do not want to miss. We will solicit questions in advance and also entertain questions from the floor.

A former teacher and principal, LORRAINE always incorporated gardening and horticulture into her curriculum. As an active Orange County Master Gardener, she enjoys sharing knowledge and useful techniques with other gardeners.
