81419 Alexander – “Parisian” Retreat
The creator of this charming garden has been a doctor, a painter, and a sous chef, yet nothing feeds her soul as much as her passion for gardening. Approach this garden as an artfully composed still life. As you wander through, notice how this gardener pleases your eye with symmetry.
Enter on the right side of the house and walk through delicate wrought iron archways and curves intended to create a sense of mystery and surprise. Around the first bend, pure elegance in the form of a potted Japanese maple is revealed. Continue through the trellises adorned in clematis and fragrant wisteria and, emerge on to a patio reminiscent of a European courtyard.
Stepping inside this secluded haven, with its shaded wrought iron dining area, verdigris sculpture, and lush landscape, is like entering an Impressionist painting of a Parisian Garden in springtime.
Behind her home, discover five garden “rooms” framed by Ilex crenata ‘Steeds’: Steeds holly. A unique focal point for each “room” – a bird bath, a bench, and numerous sculptures – anchor these spaces. Hidden within the landscape are forty pots containing hydrangeas and other beautiful plantings safe from voles and moles.
Don’t miss this inspiring visit to “Paris”!
